4/6/20 Update for Families

April 6, 2020

Good afternoon.

During his public announcement today, Governor Cuomo announced that the mandated school closure has been extended until at least 4/29/20. Additionally, the Board of Regents is expected to make an announcement tomorrow that Regents Exams for June 2020 will be cancelled.

With these changes, BCS will review our instructional plans through the extended closure. Students and families should continue to work with teachers and administrators on what needs to happen to continue student learning.

BCS is working this week to expand Internet access in the District. Students can now utilize Belfast Remote (no password required) networks in the previously identified parking areas. The signals are stronger and will reach beyond the parking lot. The access may not work in individual homes, but students within a mile of the new connections should be able to access the system outside. (I need to thank Mr. Morgan and Mr. Schneider for working to make this increased access a reality for our families.) The previous SmartBus connections will be moved around the District to increase access, and please remember that the Belfast Public Library also has free WIFI access.

Please do not hesitate to contact BCS with any questions. Again, I want to thank you for your support, persistence, and patience during this very difficult time.

Dr. Butler
