Welcome to MS/HS Science!  My name is Ms. Grottanelli.  I teach 7th and 8th grade science and Regents Earth science.  I have a strong background in environmental science, wildlife biology, ecology and the conditions on Earth that make interactions in nature possible.  I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Biology concentrated in Herpetology and Wetland Ecology from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry and a Master's of Arts in Teaching science from SUNY Empire State College. I am a former BCS student and am very excited to be teaching here at home!

For class activities and assignments, we use the Microsoft Teams app.  Students can log in using their school credentials.

I try to send a remind announcement home each week with our class agenda and a brief description of what we are working on.  If you aren't in the correct remind class and you would like to be, please use the class codes below.

  • Teaching Philosophy

I believe that students learn best when they are engaged in their learning.  Learning science involves "doing" science so we focus our science learning on the 5e model: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.  Learning is most effective when information is presented in multiple ways to appeal to all different preferred learning styles.  In class we prioritize the hands on activities that allow students to develop their own explanations for natural phenomena and make connections between the world they live in and what they are learning in class.
